Yandex launched CatBoost on July 18, 2017, a new open source machine learning library already used in many of the company's services. CatBoost is intended to replace the old technology created in 2009, Matrixnet (or Matriksnet ), thanks to its better performance in every way.
Matrixnet uses all the artificial intelligence technologies off page seo service known to date , namely neural networks and combinations of semantic vectors to improve the relevance of searches. Since the technology has been created and used in the Russian search engine since 2009, it is important to remember that it preceded Google's RankBrain. Of course, we should not compare them and Google has already used other methods before, but this shows that Yandex is rarely behind in terms of technology, and this is not the first time that this has been proven...
CatBoost takes the same basics but considerably improves the range of possibilities offered by Matrixnet. Everything is faster, and above all, CatBoost is much more precise in classifying data . I am not an expert in artificial intelligence because my brain does not have the capacity, but if I understood correctly, the other strength of CatBoost is to be able to recover all kinds of data without necessarily translating them into digital form . This allows Yandex technology to accept similar data in an almost infinite way, and not determined in advance in "number". Yandex cites the example of musical genres, which could be fixed numerically beforehand in order to place the data in this or that category. This was done in this way with the first versions of Matriksnet, but with CatBoost, no musical genre is predefined, it takes the data as it is and classifies it automatically, without converting it into digital form. It is therefore efficient, broader and faster!
In all tests conducted by Yandex, CatBoost proved to be better than Matriksnet or other technologies (see benchmarks below). The company has not confirmed that it uses it in its search engine, but it seems that it does. Indeed, it has indicated that it will replace Matrixnet with the new machine learnin
